Parenting Wheel of Life

Updated: Nov 23, 2022

Being a parent can sometimes feel like you are on a hamster wheel where you are doing the same thing day after day and getting the same results day after day!

I get it. I have been a single mum to my 3 children for 10 years and I too felt like that. When you are in 'survival mode,' you don't feel like you have the luxury or energy to 'be creative' or 'think outside of the box!'

Parenting is an absolute privilege but it is also bloody hard work. There will be times when you will realize that your family life isn't going in the direction you had hoped. Tempers will be frayed. Communication between your partner and your children will be short, snappy, and sometimes hurtful. You are exhausted and lack any motivation. You long for spontaneity and to hell with the cleaning!

Sometimes we just need to take a small step back and get a handle on what is really going on around us and ask ourselves:

  • How truly happy and fulfilled am I?

  • What am I currently doing that needs to change?

  • What can I do to make that change?

  • Why do I need to change these habits?

  • What do I want my relationship with my children/partner/self to look like?

  • Who do I need to reach out to?

  • Who do I need to surround myself with?

  • What resources are available to me?

  • What is my first step today to make this change?

I am sharing one of my favorite coaching tools that I use with my clients. Honesty and awareness are the first steps to achieving success. Understanding why you need to change will help you to focus on what you need to do to reshape your situation over what you have no control over.

'The ultimate value of life depends upon awareness and the power of contemplation rather than upon mere survival.' Aristotle
